While Mediation can help us reach an agreement, resolution doesn’t equal repair for parties in conflict. Despite a clear agreement or a workable path forward, underlying relationships can remain strained, fragile and unresolved. Where those parties must work together, live near each other or are part of the same community or system, the gap between resolution and repair can be more pronounced undermining the intervention success.

This session explores the distinction between resolution-based and repair-based processes. We’ll discuss practice fidelity, party needs, the intersections, boundaries and what helps us facilitate the best outcome.

We'll dive into a discussion around:

When resolution is the appropriate intervention

When relational repair becomes necessary for sustainable outcomes both for and beyond the resolution

Assessing which practice may best meet the parties' needs

The different skills, stances and interventions required for resolution and repair formats

How to work at the intersections without overreaching or undermining practice integrity

We want to sharpen our capacity as practitioners to meet the work in front of us with intention, integrity, compassion and at times, a little process innovation.
